COACH'S QUOTE
"It was a competitive match today, and a fun game to watch," head coach
Kate Pfeifer said. "I'm proud of the focus and consistency our players showed through all four quarters. I thought we played simple, smart hockey, and responded well when things didn't go our way. We had a goal called back in the fourth, and on the next play, won it off the press, earned a corner off the counter attack, then another corner to score. We made good progress today."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior Sydney Melfi recorded the game's first shot in the 19th minute. She also received a green card in the 29th minute in a defensive first half for both teams.
- Sierra Espeland turned aside a shot from Olivia Wawrzyniak in the 35th minute for the afternoon's first save.
- Melfi sprinted by the Longwood defense in the 42nd minute and fired UVM's first shot on goal, but Lancer goalie Katie Wyman recorded her first save of the game.
- Ferry broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute on Vermont's second straight penalty corner. Kate Hall triggered the corner to Peppe Haantjes, who slid the ball to Ferry for the quick shot and score.
- Longwood hit the post in the 56th minute on its second penalty corner of the afternoon.
GAME NOTES
- Ferry's goal marked her fourth of the season, bringing her into a tie with Hall for the team lead. She has seven points in Vermont's last four games.
- Vermont moves to 2-1 all-time against Longwood.
- With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to Make-A-Wish Vermont; bringing this year's total to 64 wins and $6,400. Â
