HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Yale took an early lead 1:11 after the opening puck drop as Teddy Wooding scored his first career goal after a centering pass deflected off him and past Vermont goalie Tyler Harmon (26 saves). Evan and Mitchell Smith assisted on the goal.
  • Riley McCutcheon scored his first career goal at 7:52 of the second period to even the score at 1-1. The Courtice, Ontario native received a pass from Derek Lodermeier at the right hashmark and quickly slotted a shot past Yale goalie Corbin Kaczperski (27 saves).
  • Max Kaufman sprung Vlad Dzhioshvili on a breakaway with less than two minutes to play in the second, but Kaczperski stuck with the Russian and made the save to keep the game tied heading into the third period.
  • Lodermeier scored a backhand wraparound goal at 6:50 of the third period to put Vermont ahead 2-1. The captain won a battle below the goal line before taking the puck to the net for the go-ahead tally.
  • Yale's Curtis Hall tipped a Jack St. Ivany past Harmon to tie the game at 2-2 at 19:09 of the third period. Yale's goal came with an empty net to push the game to overtime.
  • Hall gave the Bulldogs the overtime win at 2:53 of the extra frame, beating Harmon blocker-side with a shot on an odd-man rush.
GAME NOTES
  • McCutcheon is the fifth and final member of the Class of 2023 to score his first collegiate goal. He joins Jacques Bouquot, Simon Boyko, William Lemay, and Andrew Lucas.
  • Carter Long picked up the secondary assist on McCutcheon's second period goal for his first point of the season.
  • Harmon made his first start for the Green & Gold since December 2017 against Harvard.
