BURLINGTON, Vt. - The UVM Athletics Inclusive Excellence Committee is proud to announce the launch of She Roars, an initiative to foster gender equity in the world of sports. She Roars aims to raise awareness about the stories, accomplishments, and power of women athletes as well as the long-term inequities faced by women in sports. With the support of our community, alumni, and fans, She Roars will strive to empower all women to stand up for themselves and others, while championing the recognition and celebration of all women leaders in sport, on and off the field.

"We have been inspired by the many incredibly strong female leaders in our country who fight, on our behalf for gender equity," said Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development and Academic Affairs Dr.
Cathy Osmers Rahill. "Locally we've been awed by the efforts and impact of the Burlington High School Girls soccer team's Equal Pay initiative. Nationally we've learned from the giant work done by the US Women's Soccer Team, Billie Jean King, the US Women's Hockey team, players in the WNBA and so many others. We have a duty as Catamounts to join this conversation."
She Roars will also serve as an educational platform to provide stories and information to help female leaders realize their full potentials. Catamount student-athletes have been critical to the creation of this initiative. She Roars is dedicated to breaking down barriers. This campaign aims to empower all women, transwomen, femme, and non-binary folks in sport and in our community. She Roars welcomes diversity and promotes belonging across the intersections of race, sexual orientation, gender identity, and religion.
"UVM has a proud legacy of exceptional women athletes and teams," stated Director of Athletics
Jeff Schulman. "I'm excited that this new initiative will help further highlight these outstanding women, provide new leadership opportunities for our student-athletes and a platform for important conversations and advocacy around gender equity issues in the world of sports."Â
