STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Vermont came within a goal of overcoming a four-goal deficit late in the game but fell to Northeast Conference preseason favorite Wagner 11-10 on Sunday afternoon. The Catamounts drop to 1-3 while the Seahawks even their record to 2-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts struck first with Dani Paterno's fourth goal of the season three minutes into the contest. The Seahawks found the equalizer a minute later, but MacKenzie Bolt capitalized on a Wagner penalty and gave the Green and Gold a 2-1 lead with 25 minutes left on the clock.
- The Seahawks scored three of the next four goals and took a 4-3 lead at the 20:30 mark. Bolt completed the first-half hat trick with two goals in a seven-minute stretch as the Cats retook the lead, 5-4.
- Wagner ended the half with four straight goals for an 8-4 lead at the break.
- UVM snapped Wagner's streak with two goals to begin the second half, another one from Bolt and Maris Large's first of the game.
- The Seahawks responded with three unanswered goals and stretched their advantage to 11-7 near the midway point.
- The Cats made a strong push to even the score in the late stages of the game. Bolt buried a free position goal with 12 minutes remaining, then assisted Taylor Mullen's goal a minute later. Ava Vasile capped off the run and helped the Green and Gold draw within 11-10 at the 4:56 mark.
- In the final minutes, the Seahawks managed to run out the clock to prevent the Catamounts from completing the comeback.
GAME NOTES
- Bolt notched her second-career hat trick and netted a career-high five goals. She was credited with one assist and won a draw control.
- McKenzie Ballard added three points with three assists.
- Vasile scored two goals and matched a game high with seven draw controls.
- For the second straight game, Sophie McLaughlin hit double digits with 11 saves.
- Sunday was the first ever meeting between the two programs.
