ROAD WARRIORS
The Catamounts have won eight out of their last 12 road games dating back to last year. Last season, Vermont posted a 7-2 record on the road including five victories against non-conference opponents. The Green and Gold have a 1-2 record away from home this season.
EMPIRE STATE WELL PRESENTED
Friday's contest will feature 23 student-athletes from the state of New York. The Catamounts have 11 players from New York while the Pioneers have an even dozen from the Empire State. In fact, Vermont's
Sophia Burke and Sacred Heart's Olivia Millard both attended Saratoga Springs High School.
NEC ON THE DOCKET
Sacred Heart is the fourth and final Northeast Conference opponent on the non-conference schedule. The Cats played Merrimack in the season opener, then followed up with Bryant and Wagner on the current road swing.
SCOUTING SACRED HEART
The Pioneers have dropped their only two games of the young season, an 18-9 setback at Bucknell on Feb. 8 and an 11-5 defeat at Monmouth a week later. Cassie Cesario and Lydia Werlau have led the offensive attack in the early going with five points apiece. Cesario has netted a team-best four goals, including a hat trick last time out. She recorded a multi-point effort with one goal and one assist at Bucknell. Werlau has used more of a balanced approach with three goals and two assists against the Bison. In goal, Bella Beaton has spent the most minutes between the pipes and has stopped 28 shots.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The non-conference foes will meet for the eighth time as the Cats hold a slight 4-3 edge. Sacred Heart won the first three meetings from 2003-05, but after a nine-year break the momentum has shifted to Vermont. Since 2014, the Green and Gold have produced a four-game winning streak and have won by an average of 10.2 goals per game. Last year, UVM earned a 16-4 win at Virtue Field.
