BOSTON - An impressive 85 percent of Vermont student-athletes who competed in winter and spring sports this past year earned America East Academic Winter/Spring Honor Roll distinction, the conference announced on Thursday.
Student-athletes who were members of the men's and women's basketball, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's indoor/outdoor track and field and swimming and diving teams for the Catamounts who had a GPA of 3.0 or better were named to the America East Academic Honor Roll. In total, 221 of UVM's 260 winter/spring participants earned the recognition.
More than 55 percent of those recognized (142 student-athletes) earned Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction for achieving at least a 3.5 GPA. In addition, 34 student-athletes maintained a 4.0 GPA including 16 members of the women's track and field program.
A record total of 1,995 student-athletes who competed in America East sponsored winter and spring sports earned Honor Roll distinction, as a record-breaking 86.7 percent of the over 2,300 student-athletes earned at least a 3.0 GPA during the spring 2020 semester. The new mark shatters the old standard of 68.3 percent, set last spring. Of that group, nearly 60 percent and 1,392 in total earned Commissioner's Honor Roll status for registering a GPA of 3.5 or better.
