COACH'S QUOTE
"I thought tonight we played parts of the game that were very good but had incomplete segments," Head Coach Todd Woodcroft said. "Our first period was very strong. Our goaltending and penalty kill continue to be positive components of our game. Our power play and offensive zone finish are not contributory at this point. Our offensive game is struggling and our young mistakes proved once again to be costly – puck decisions that lead to goals against that could be prevented. We are a work in progress."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Catamounts came out of the gates strong, just 29 seconds into the game former RPI defenseman Cory Babichuk had a point shot deflect off the crossbar and out. UVM outshot RPI 5-0 in the first segment of the opening period but they couldn't solve RPI's Marshall early.
  • With 6:58 left in the first period the Engineers struck to open the scoring. Jake Johnson beat a Vermont defender at the blueline and cut into the slot before firing a low shot towards UVM's Tyler Harmon. Harman made the initial save but Johnson fell on the play and hit Harmon in the crease. As contact was made the puck crossed the line giving RPI a 1-0 edge.
  • 2:40 into the second period Harmon made a terrific set of stops to keep it a one-goal game. RPI's Zach Dubinsky skated in on a breakaway and fired a wrist shot that Harmon knocked down, TJ Walsh had an opportunity on the rebound but Harmon kicked it aside as well.
  • Ture Linden scored the game-winning goal with 11:23 left in the second period. Linden won the race to a dump-in by his teammate Mason Klee and after a UVM defender fell on the play was able to skate in alone on Harmon. Linden sniped the top corner for his second of the year.
  • UVM was able to cut the deficit in half with 28.9 seconds left in regulation. Jacques Bouquot and Will Zapernick combined on a great give-and-go down low. Bouquot passed to Zapernick, then skated into the slot, before one-timing a feed from Zapernick for his first goal of the season. UVM defenseman Robbie Stucker earned the secondary assist on the play.
  • Vermont was unable to sustain any pressure in the final 28.9 seconds and the Engineers held on for their second win of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • RPI blocked 15 Vermont shots Saturday night
  • The Catamounts penalty kill was two-for-two tonight, this season they have allowed two power play goals in 14 attempts (85.7%).

  • First year forward Simon Jellus was 11-for-13 in the faceoff circle for the Catamounts tonight. His 11 wins were tied for the game-high.
