COACH'S QUOTE
"The coaches felt that this weekend was a big step for this team and program," said Head Coach
Todd Woodcroft. "To compete hard against BC and to have two one-goal games – we are pleased with large parts of the series. Our PP was something we needed to address and it performed well. Our penalty kill was great the first game and showed signs of becoming a cornerstone of the future here. It was a positive sign that so many of our new players are playing contributory roles and that our veteran players, especially our leadership group are putting their stamp on the identity of this team."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- First year Simon Jellus opened the scoring Saturday on the power play for the Catamounts with 5:07 left in the opening frame. From just outside the faceoff dot Jellus centered a pass towards BC's Eric Dop. Jellus' pass deflected off an BC defender and in. Jellus' second goal in as many nights was assisted by Robbie Stucker and Cory Babichuk.
- Boston College answered back with a similar power play tally of their own with 54 seconds left in the opening period. Drew Helleson fed a cross-ice pass to Jack McBain in front of the UVM net and it deflected off McBain's skate and in for his fourth goal of the season.
- UVM managed to grab the lead back with just one second left in the first period. In the dying seconds Isak Walther fed a pass back to Luca Münzenberger at the point and Münzenberger one-timed a slap shot towards Dop. The puck got caught in traffic in front of the net and ended up behind Dop sitting in the crease. Philip Lagunov tapped it home for his fourth goal of the game.
- Midway through the second period McBain struck on the power play again to tie the game at two. Skating in front of Vermont's Tyler Harmon McBain redirected a Helleson point shot through traffic and in with 9:19 left in the second period.
- Following the game-tying goal Harmon made 11 saves in the final minutes of the second to send the teams into the third tied for the second night in a row.
- Kuntar delivered the winner for BC late in the period. Eamon Powell spotted Kuntar unmarked in the offensive zone and fed a centering pass to Kuntar in the slot that he one-timed home for the game-winner.
