Postgame: Coach Woodcroft
COACH'S QUOTE
"Close again but a very complete game," Head Coach
Todd Woodcroft said. "With three minutes to go and to be put on a penalty kill for a faceoff violation in the offensive zone is puzzling to say the least. Back to work tomorrow morning to get ready for Yale on Wednesday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams played a scoreless opening frame. UVM had the first six shots of the contest and outshot Providence 10-7 in the first period.
- The Friars opened the scoring with 6:10 left in the second period. A Max Crozier point shot was knocked down in traffic in front of UVM's Gabe Carriere. After a battle for possession it popped onto the stick of Parker Ford in front. Ford beat Carriere with a quick snapshot for his sixth goal of the season.
- With 3:18 left in the third period the Catamounts received a delay of game penalty after consecutive faceoff violations. The Friars struck just eight seconds into the opportunity to take a 2-0 lead. Ford won the ensuing offensive zone faceoff and Brett Berard took control of the puck along the boards. He cut along the goal line and fed a pass to Patrick Moynihan on the backdoor who one-timed it home for his fifth goal of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- First year forward Simon Jellus won seven of the nine draws he took Saturday night. Five of the six Catamounts to take draws Saturday were at or above 50%. As a team UVM won 28 of the 48 draws.
- Gabe Carriere was named the game's third star, he made 23 saves for the Catamounts. In three league contests this year Carriere has a .916 save percentage.
