COACH'S QUOTE
"We're disappointed with the outcome today," said Cioffi Men's Basketball Head Coach John Becker. "I thought the first half was kind of where we lost the game, but down the stretch we missed a couple of free throws and fell out of bounds on a rebound. Credit to their guy for making the shot. There were a lot of teaching points to take from this game. We fought back and gave ourselves a chance in a game that we were undermanned and not playing our best basketball – for that I'm really proud of the guys. We'll be ready tomorrow."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Catamounts took an early lead in the opening minutes of the game, but the Golden Grizzlies responded with a 14-4 run to go up 17-9 with 12:20 remaining in the half. Vermont countered with a trio of three pointers from Finn Sullivan to retake the lead with 8:35 remaining in the first half.
  • Oakland closed out the opening frame on a 16-8 run to take a 36-26 lead into the locker room. After the initial burst by the Golden Grizzlies stretched their lead to five points, UVM pulled to within three points on several occasions. Oakland closed out the final 2:58 on an 8-0 run for the 10-point advantage at the break.
  • The Catamounts opened the second half with a 15-8 run to pull to within three points of the Golden Grizzlies. Ryan Davis led the UVM attack with 10 points in the first 5:09 of the frame to make the score 44-41 Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies briefly pulled away after the midway point of the second frame and took a 58-50 lead with 6:41 remaining.
  • A 10-2 run for Vermont knotted the game at 60-60 with 2:49 left in regulation. Ben Shungu made a free throw with 2:10 on the clock to put the Catamounts up 61-60, but Moore drilled a three from the top of the key with 11 seconds left to seal the game.
