COACH'S QUOTE
"There were lots of positives in our game tonight – coming off a four-week hiatus against one of the hottest teams in the country, there were large parts of our game that we can be happy with," said Head Coach
Todd Woodcroft. "We defended hard and even though we do not want to give up so many shots, our goaltending and overall defensive zone play was a positive;
Gabe Carriere was excellent all night. Our penalty kill was a positive and showed signs of improvement but our power play is an ongoing issue we need to address."
"We have to find ways to manufacture offense, because we are a working team and that is how we will generate our goals," continued Woodcroft. "Lastly, our start has to be better tomorrow and maybe today was understandable given the circumstances, but we have to be dialed in for the full 60-65 minutes. So, while we will continue to find things to be content with, we are also aware of the deficiencies and will work to address them, and address them every day. That is the only way to turn games from 1-0 losses into 1-0 wins."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the opening period, the Terriers came out strong outshooting the Catamounts 10-3. Carriere was steady early helping kill off two BU power plays in the opening twenty minutes.
- Vermont had the best chance of the opening period as Andrew Petrillo fed a perfect cross-ice pass off the boards that allowed William Lemay to skate in alone on BU's Vinny Duplessis. Lemay deked to his backhand and was just beaten to the post by Duplessis.
- After an even second period the Terriers scored the only goal of the game early in the third. In transition Vlasic took a feed from Jay O'Brien and split the Vermont defense before beating Carriere with a quick backhand shot for his third goal of the season.
- The Catamounts best chance to equalize came in the games' final minutes with Vermont headed to the power play after an interference call on Nick Zabaneh with 3:20 left in regulation. Duplessis turned aside two UVM shots on the power play and sealed the door late to earn his first career collegiate shutout.
