MEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
Vermont men's hockey is back in action this weekend as they host UMass Lowell (5-8-0) on Friday and Saturday night at 7 p.m. Friday night is the Catamounts annual Cancer Awareness Game presented by SD Ireland. Saturday is Senior Night presented by the UVM Alumni Association. Both games will be broadcast live for free on CBS CollegeSportsLive. The voice of the Catamounts, Maura Sheridan, will broadcast the action live on WVMT (FM 96.3 / AM 620).

DOMINIQUE DUCHARME '95 NAMED INTERIM HEAD COACH OF CANADIENS
On Wednesday morning Dominique Ducharme was promoted to Interim Head Coach of the Montreal Canadiens. During his four-year tenure at Vermont he totaled 149 points (54 goals, 95 assists), which ranks ninth in program history and was named to the ECAC all-rookie team in 1992.
Ducharme has an impressive coaching resume, having won the QMJHL's President's Cup, CHL's Memorial Cup and a gold and silver medal behind the bench of the Canada World Junior team. He has served as an assistant coach with the bleu, blanc et rouge since 2018.
ROSS COLTON MAKES HIS MARK IN NHL DEBUT WITH TAMPA BAY
On Wednesday night, it was another former Catamount making headlines as
Ross Colton became the 18th player in program history to play in the NHL. Colton made a mark in his NHL debut scoring the game-winning goal on his second shift for the defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning in a 3-0 win over Carolina.
Colton earned Hockey East Honorable Mention All-Star status in 2018 following his final season in Catamount Country after posting career-highs in goals (16), power play goals (8), and shots on goal (140). His posted 50 career points in just 69 games at Vermont.
VITOLINS LEADS THE WAY FOR CATAMOUNTS
First-year forward
Ray Vitolins leads Vermont in scoring with one goal and five assists for six points this season. He has routinely centered the Catamounts top line and had a pair of two assist games against the Maine Black Bears in January.

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
Last weekend the River Hawks split a weekend series with No. 16 Northeastern. On Friday night, they skated past the Huskies 4-1 from Matthews Arena but on Saturday they were shutout at home.
Senior forward Charlie Levesque led the way for the Huskies on Friday posting a career-high three points in the 4-1 win. He was named a Hockey East Weekly Top Performer for his efforts. Levesque is tied for fifth on the team with seven points this season.
Sophomore forward Carl Berglund leads the team in scoring with 11 points in 11 games for the River Hawks. Los Angeles Kings seventh round draft pick Andre Lee has a team-high six goals.
SERIES HISTORY
The Catamounts are 16-32-8 all-time against the River Hawks and 8-14-5 at home facing UML. The River Hawks are 8-1-1 in the last 10 meetings with the Catamounts. Last season they swept a two-game series at Gutterson Fieldhouse, defeating UVM 2-1 and 5-3.
HOCKEY EAST ANNOUNCES 2021 TOURNAMENT AND SEEDING FORMAT
The 2021 men's and women's tournaments will be a single-elimination format with each game hosted at the home arena of the higher seed. Additionally, the league announced seeding will be determined by a newly-developed mathematical formula dubbed the Hockey East Power Index.
The men's tournament will begin with three opening round games between seeds 6-11 on Wednesday, March 10. Seeds 1-5 automatically qualify for the quarterfinals. Following a reseeding, the quarterfinals take place on Sunday, March 14. The semifinals are set for Wednesday, March 17 with the Lamoriello Trophy to be handed out in the championship game on Saturday, March 20. The latest possible date of the men's regular season will be Sunday, March 7.
DOVAR YOUNGEST PLAYER IN COLLEGE HOCKEY
2019-20 CCHL Rookie of the Year
Dovar Tinling is the youngest player in college hockey at the age of 17. The next closest players are Michigan's Owen Power and Matty Beniers who are 18 and one month. At 17 he is the youngest Canadian NCAA player since Jonathan Toews and Simon Danis-Pepin dressed for North Dakota and Maine, respectively, in 2005-06.
