DEFENSIVE STOPPER
Junior goalie
Sophie McLaughlin was named America East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. McLaughlin stopped a career-high 16 shots in UVM's 13-4 conference win over New Hampshire last weekend. The Keene, New Hampshire product saved 80.0% of the shots fired her way. The weekly accolade is the first of McLaughlin's career.
2-0 CONFERENCE START
The Green and Gold have jumped out to a 2-0 start in conference play for the first time since 2008 and only the second time in their America East tenure.
NOT SURRENDERING
In the win over the Wildcats, the Catamounts only gave up four goals – the fewest surrendered to an opponent since giving up three goals at Binghamton in the 2019 regular season finale. Last Saturday was the only the fourth time since the start of the new millennium where the Cats allowed four or fewer goals in a single game.
SCOUTING BINGHAMTON
The Bearcats have split their only two games of the season – an 11-8 win over UMass Lowell on March 6 and a 19-13 setback at UAlbany on Saturday. In the America East Preseason Poll, BU was picked right behind Vermont at No. 6 with 21 points. Paige Volkmann is one of the league's top scorers with only two games under her belt. She ranks eighth in the league with eight goals thanks in large part to a double hat trick against the Great Danes. Madison Murphy is close behind with seven goals. She recorded a hat trick versus UML, then topped it with a four-goal game at UAlbany. Taylor Passuello has started both games in net for the Bearcats. Passuello has logged a .424 save percentage and a 11.94 goals-against average in 96 minutes this season.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Catamounts lead the all-time series with Binghamton 12-6. The 23-3 victory back in 2019 snapped a three-game skid. The two teams have split the last 10 meetings dating back to 2010. UVM has won seven of 10 all-time meetings in Vestal, New York.
