COACH'S QUOTE
"Great team victory. I was very pleased with the performance of our faceoff men and goalies especially," head coach
Chris Feifs said. "The offense was firing on all cylinders paced by
Brock Haley,
Thomas McConvey and
David Closterman and the defense was stout when it needed to be. Lots of positives to build upon for our next conference battle on Virtue."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont got on the board four and a half minutes into the first thanks to David Closterman's (3G, 2A) GLE dodge. The ensuing possession Closterman found a cutting Thomas McConvey (4G, 1A) for his first of the day to make it 2-0.
- McConvey got his second as time expired – a leaping effort in front of the cage on a nice feed from again from Closterman. Vermont led 4-0 at the end of one quarter.
- Vermont put the final touches on a 7-0 first half when first-year Jonas Hunter connected with classmate Griffin Fenech (1G, 1A) for a strong finish in front.
- The Cats stretched their lead to 12-1 at the end of the third when Liam Limoges (1G, 1A) capped off a stretch of three straight UVM possessions with a goal.
- UVM continued the offensive pressure in the fourth outscoring NJIT 5-1 thanks in part to the first career goals for Clay Weiss (2G) and Brock Haley's (4G, 2A) fourth of the day.
- George Egan played in his first collegiate game and came on to make a pair of saves in the fourth quarter.
