SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Despite a stellar day from
Tommy Burke at the faceoff X, Vermont couldn't find the offensive touch late falling to #6/7 Syracuse, 17-13, Saturday afternoon at the Carrier Dome.
Vermont drops to 1-2 on the young season and Syracuse improves to 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Orange got on the board first scoring the first two goals of the game. Vermont answered with goals from Thomas McConvey and Brock Haley to tie the game at 2-all.
- Tommy Burke went 6-for-10 at the faceoff X in the first quarter to keep the Cats in it. Syracuse led 5-3 after one.
- A 3-0 Syracuse run gave it a 10-5 lead but Vermont closed the half with two straight – including Liam Limoges' third of the day – to claw back within three at the break.
- The Orange started the second half on a 4-1 run to stretch its lead to 14-8 – the biggest Syracuse lead of the day.
- The Cats answered back with three straight goals – two from McConvey – to make it 14-11 at the end of three.
- Syracuse goalie Drake Porter (20 saves) stood tall in cage in the fourth to keep the Cats at arm's length as the Orange hung on for the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Vermont outshot Syracuse 51-32 and picked up 42 ground balls to Syracuse's 29.
- Tommy Burke went 24-for-34 at X (70.5%) primarily against the reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Week, Jackob Phaup. Burke also picked up 12 ground balls.
- After transferring from Syracuse before the second semester last year, JJ Levandowski finally made his Carrier Dome debut and scored twice against his former team.
- McConvey tallied four scores to match a career-high he set against Bryant in the season opener.
- Ryan Cornell made 12 saves in the losing effort.
- Syracuse's Stephen Rehfuss led all scorers with eight points on two goals and six assists.
