BURLINGTON, Vt. – Three straight goals sparked a late comeback bid for Vermont (4-5, 4-3 AE) that ultimately fell short as UMBC (5-4, 4-3 AE) took an 11-8 victory on Saturday at Virtue Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Retrievers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 5:29 with goals from Dymin Gerow and Megan Halczuk. Maris Large answered for the Catamounts less than a minute later, but UMBC responded with Gerow's second tally of the game.
- Ava Vasile pulled Vermont to within a goal before the midway point of the opening half with her 24th marker of the season, but the Retrievers closed out the first half with a 4-2 run in the final 14:15 to take a 7-4 lead into the break.
- Vasile added her second tally of the game 6:07 into the second half to bring the Catamounts back to within two. Olivia Docal answered for UMBC with a goal that sparked a stretch of three straight for a 10-5 lead with 17:38 left in the game.
- Vermont's comeback bid began with 17:27 left as Taylor Mullen struck quickly after UMBC's 10th goal. MacKenzie Bolt added a goal 1:55 later and Dani Paterno pulled the Catamounts to within two with 2:07 left in regulation.
- Gerow netted her fifth goal of the game in the final minute for a late insurance marker to hold off the Catamounts.

- Paterno had a team-high three points, which included a pair of assists.
- Vasile and Large led the UVM goal scorers with two goals each. Vasile also posted a team-high nine shots and six shots on goal.
- Grace Giancola also had a pair of points with one goal and one assist. The redshirt junior wore No. 23 today in honor of Vanessa Cox '05.
- Sophie McLaughlin stopped 11 shots in goal for the Catamounts.
