PLAYOFF SCENARIOS
UVM enters the final weekend of the regular season in a three-way tie for first place at 6-2 in league play with UMBC and Stony Brook. With a win on Saturday the Catamounts would clinch at least share of their first-ever America East Regular Season Championship. UMBC holds the tiebreaker through head-to-head wins over UVM and Stony Brook so the Retrievers will host the America East semifinals and championship game on May 6 and 8 if they defeat NJIT on the road this Saturday. If UMBC loses the winner of Saturday's UVM/Stony Brook tilt will host.
PINCH AND POP
Tommy Burke's 23-for-34 effort at the X against UAlbany Wednesday was the second time this season he's won the ball 20 or more times. He currently ranks sixth in the country with a .708 win percentage (170-for-240). His 8.40 ground balls per game are also 10th in the NCAA. Saturday's matchup will feature the two best in America East. Burke will go head-to-head with Stony Brook's Austin Deskewicz who has a .604 win percentage.
RUNNING WITH RANKED OPPONENTS
With Saturday's matchup with No. 19 Stony Brook UVM will face their fourth ranked opponent in a season for the fifth time since 2012. UVM is 2-1 against ranked teams this year defeating UAlbany twice and falling 17-13 at Syracuse on March 6.
SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES
No. 19 Stony Brook was on a six-game America East winning streak until dropping their first home game of the 2021 campaign last Saturday 14-13 in overtime against UMBC. Stony Brook's two league losses have both come against the Retrievers, each time falling by a single goal in overtime.
The Seawolves boast the best offense in America East this season averaging 15.08 goals-per game. Stony Brook has scored at least 12 goals in 11 of its 12 games this season. Redshirt first year Dylan Pallonetti leads America East with 31 goals and 17 assists.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Stony Brook holds a 20-2 all-time series record against Vermont. UVM's victories came in the 2016 and 2018 America East Semifinal round in neutral site contests in Albany. Stony Brook is 9-0 all-time in games played in Burlington. In their last meeting, also on Senior Day in Burlington, the Seawolves defeated UVM 10-9 on April 20, 2019. The Catamounts last three regular season losses to Stony Brook have all been one-goal games.
