NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – Vermont women's lacrosse sophomore
Ava Vasile earned All-Northeast Second-Team honors, announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association on Wednesday afternoon. The midfielder was joined by three America East counterparts on the Second Team and is the first Catamount to receive the honor since Jessica Roach in 2015.

Vasile helped lead the Catamounts to a third-place finish in the conference regular season standings as Vermont clinched its first postseason appearance since 2015. The Milford, Massachusetts native paced the UVM attack this season with a team-high 32 goals, nine assists, and 41 points in 12 games played. The sophomore also led the Catamounts in shots (80), shots on goal (59), free position goals (9), free position shots (18), and caused turnovers (15). Vasile was second on the team in groundballs (27).
Among the America East ranks, Vasile finished the season in the top 10 in goals per game (2.67), points per game (3.42), shots per game (6.67), groundballs per game (2.25), and caused turnovers per game (1.25). Vasile posted a career-high five goals on two occasions this season against conference opponents Hartford and Binghamton.
The sophomore was named to the America East All-Conference First Team along with teammate
Sophie McLaughlin on May 5. With her first season cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she was also named to the All-Rookie Team with Vermont defender
Camille Argentieri.
