The 40 players who will attend camp, including McPherson, will be split into two teams and participate in practices and intrasquad games from July 29-August 9 at WinSport's Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. The camp will also feature two scrimmages against Canada's National Women's Team from August 7-9.
"The COVID-19 pandemic really impacted this group of athletes with limited ice time, and the opportunity to bring everyone together with an elite group of coaches will benefit them as they prepare for the upcoming season," said Gina Kingsbury, director of hockey operations with Hockey Canada. "We look forward to welcoming our development athletes back to Calgary for summer camp, and we know this group will be excited to get on the ice together before a highly-anticipated season."
Hockey Canada has also named National Women's Team alumnae Caroline Ouellette (Concordia University) and Vicky Sunohara (University of Toronto) head coaches for camp. They will work alongside assistant coaches Rachel Flanagan (University of Guelph), Chris MacKenzie (UConn), Candice Moxley (Western University) and Dean Seymour (PWHPA), as well as goaltending coach Perry Wilson (Windsor Spitfires, OHL).
McPherson was the first-ever UVM player to be named Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Year during the 2020-21 campaign. As a part of the 2021 UVM Rally Awards she received the women's Meg and Kate Ryley Underclass Athletic Achievement Award as UVM's top female underclassmen.
She started in seven of Vermont's 11 games in 2020-21, posting a 1.57 goals against average, .938 save percentage, and three shutouts. Her goals-against average was eighth-best in the NCAA. On January 1, she became just the first freshman goaltender to earn a shutout in her debut for Vermont since 2014 in a 17-save shutout. McPherson then posted a second shutout in as many career starts with a 26-save road performance at UConn en route to beginning her time in a Catamount uniform with a 4-0-0 record. Her three shutouts were second-best in the nation among all rookie goaltenders, while her .938 ranked second and her 1.57 goals-against average was fourth. She led Vermont to the fourth seed in the Hockey East Tournament, the Catamounts' best performance since 2014.
