COACH'S QUOTE
"If the shots aren't falling in regulation in the field of play if we can earn some corners and have confidence in that part of our game it can be the difference," head coach
Kate Pfeifer said. "It was great to come up with a shutout I think the back line worked really hard. We knew that Brown was going to come at us with some speed and some intensity to their counter attack. That was a big goal for today to make sure that we were really standing up to that and aware in transition to be able to make some big plays and I think the team did a really good job of doing that."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- For the second straight contest the Catamounts played to a scoreless first half with some impressive defensive play. UVM held a 3-2 shots on goal edge after the opening 15 and neither team had a shot on goal in the second quarter.
- 4:47 into the third quarter UVM was awarded a penalty stroke. Brown's Jodie Brine made an impressive left pad save to thwart UVM's Haley Buffenbarger on the attempt.
- Vermont opened the scoring 19 seconds into the fourth quarter on their third penalty corner of the game. Kate Hall started the play to Puck Kwaspen and Kwaspen teed it up for Sophia Drees who pounded it home through traffic.
- With 2:25 left in regulation the Catamounts sealed the game with an insurance marker on another penalty corner opportunity. Once again Kwaspen and Hall combined to setup a Vermont attacker in the middle. This time Clodagh Ferry scorched a hard-low shot that Brown's Brine got a piece off but couldn't keep out of the net.
