COACH'S QUOTE
"It was a fun game tonight, obviously we shot tremendously," Cioffi Men's Basketball Head Coach
John Becker said. "We set a school record and tied the conference record, had 21 assists and really controlled the glass. In the first half, both teams shot incredibly from three and at half, we wanted to keep making them work by contesting shots. I thought we did a really good job by sticking to the game plan and not getting discouraged by their makes. Offensively, it seemed like everyone was shooting it really well."
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams came out firing in the opening minutes of the conference battle with the Catamounts sinking 6-of-12 field goals and 4-of-8 from long range to grab an 18-15 lead at the under-12 timeout. Justin Mazzulla and Ryan Davis sank a pair of triples each to lead the early attack.
- Vermont stretched its lead to 11 points with a driving layup by Mazzulla that put the Catamounts up 41-30 with 4:51 left in the first half. UVM closed out the final four minutes of the opening frame on a 12-6 run to take a 53-39 lead into the locker room.
- The Catamounts continued their lights-out shooting in the second half, opening the frame on a 13-2 run in the first 5:30 to stretch the lead to 25 points. Vermont's lead finally hit the 30-point mark with 7:48 remaining after Finn Sullivan drilled a pair of free throws to put the Cats up 80-49.
- Vermont would hold on to at least a 30-point lead for the remainder of the evening, with its largest lead of the night coming with 3:12 left in regulation. Georges Lefebvre found Sullivan in the corner where he sank his fourth triple and game-high 19th point.
