Postgame: Coach Woodcroft

COACH'S QUOTE
"The two goals in the first period were both results of being out worked or out muscled, not being hard on the puck area," said Head Coach Todd Woodcroft. "And when you are a team that isn't blessed with double-digit goal scorers, you can't give up two easy goals and expect to just work your way back into the game. There were some good parts of our game today but we will park it now and get back to work tomorrow trying to figure out how to create more offense with the players we have in front of us."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • First year Anton Rubtsov picked up his first career game-winning goal 11:34 into the first period. In a scramble situation Harrison Israels turned and fired a puck towards Vermont's Gabe Carriere. The shot deflected off a Vermont defender and fell right to Rubtsov who tapped it home for his third goal of the season.
  • The Nanooks doubled their lead with 2:02 left in the opening frame. From the point Kristaps Jakobsons floated a knuckled wrist shot towards the net. Before the Vermont goaltender could track the puck, it deflected off him and trickled into the net.
  • The Catamounts maintained a territorial edge for much of the final two periods. In the second and third period, they had three power play opportunities but couldn't solve Grigals.
  • With 38 seconds left in the contest Filip Fornaa Svennson sealed the series split for the Nanooks with an empty-netter.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • William Lemay led all Vermont skaters with four shots on goal Saturday night.
  • Alaska blocked 20 UVM shots Saturday night. Antti Virtanen led the way with five blocked shots.
