Vermont went 1-1 last weekend with a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Maine and a 4-0 shutout victory over Dartmnouth. On Friday against the Black Bears, UVM tied the game in the third quarter on
Alina Gerke's fifth goal of the season but Maine struck for the game-winner late in the fourth. UVM rebounded on Sunday getting four goals from four different players in the win. Gerke found the goal again while
Sophia Lefranc,
Haley Buffenbarger and
Maddie Priestly also scored. It was the Cats' fourth shutout of the season and 13
th in the career of
Sierra Espeland in cage.

THE FRIENDLY CONFINES

The Catamounts are 6-1 at home this season following last Sunday's win. UVM is outscoring opponents 20-4 at Moulton Winder Field.

Vermont's 12 wins are tied for the most in a single season in program history. The 2007 squad also posted 12 wins and finished 3
rd in the conference that season.

PLAYOFF SCENARIOS

The Catamounts clinched a playoff spot in next week's America East Tournament for the first time since 2018 and are battling for seeding this weekend. UVM can finish anywhere from the four-seed to the six-seed based on results this weekend.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS

Cal enters the weekend with a 4-9 overall record and a 3-3 mark in league play. The Golden Bears play at UMass Lowell Friday before coming to Burlington Sunday. Last weekend they lost 2-1 to James Madison. Rachel Buttinger leads Cal in scoring with four goals and 11 points while teammates Sara Stone follows her with four goals and eight points. Goalkeeper Cato Knipping has a 4-9 record in 12 starts with a 2.97 Goals-Against-Average.

SERIES HISTORY

Sunday's matchup will be just the fifth all-time between UVM and Cal with the latter holding a 3-1 edge in the series. UVM's lone win came back in October of 2016 – Cal's first season in the America East. The Golden Bears have won the last two meetings – both in Burlington – by a combined three-goal margin. Â
