COACH'S QUOTE
"Not all wins are artistic masterpieces and this one falls into that category," Head Coach Jim Plumer said. "We got off to a great start in the first half of the game and I was very pleased with the way we were controlling the play. For the second half of the game it was just impossible to get into a flow once the penalties started adding up. I'm pleased that we were able to gut this out and get the three points, it was a hard-fought win. Also, congratulations to Theresa Schafzahl on setting another program record."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Catamounts controlled the play in the first outshooting the Terriers 10-1 in the opening twenty minutes. Andrea Brändli shut the door for BU stopping everything including five power play shots.
  • Vermont opened the scoring on the power play 12:44 into the second period. Mlynkova took a drop feed from Lily Humphrey at the point and skated into the slot. She evaded a defender and ripped a shot blocker side that beat Brändli. Corinne McCool also earned an assist on the play.
  • The Terriers tied things up on their own power play 61 seconds later. Sydney Healey fired a shot that UVM's Jessie McPherson got a piece of but the puck trickled behind her in the crease. McPherson and Healey both went for the loose puck and it inadvertently crossed the line.
  • Mlynkova continued her hot streak and scored 1:54 into the third period to regain the UVM advantage. Theresa Schafzahl fired on net and Brändli thought she had the puck but it was sitting in the crease. The puck was cleared from the line to in front and Mlynkova calmly gathered the puck went forehand to backhand and slid it home for her sixth goal in the last three games. Her second game-winning goal of the season was also assisted by Sini Karjalainen.
  • With 55 seconds left to play and the Terriers headed to a power play they called timeout and pulled their goaltender for the extra-attacker. McPherson only had to make one save in the final sequence as UVM sealed their third straight win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Theresa Schafzahl's third period assist was her 57th career assist at UVM breaking Amanda Pelkey's career mark. Schafzahl is now the all-time leader at UVM in goals (60), assists (57) and points (117).
  • With today's 2-1 win, Community Bank N.A. will donate $150 to Special Olympics Vermont. Community Bank, N.A. donates $75 per goal to Special Olympics Vermont for every goal the men's and women's team scores this season.
  • With today's win, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to COTS, the Committee on Temporary Shelter, as part of the Cats Win, Community Wins initiative. Since the campaigns inauguration in 2017, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group has donated over $72,000 to local non-profits.
