COACH'S QUOTE
"BU capitalized on their chances today and we let too many of ours go unfinished," said Head Coach
Jim Plumer. "I like the way we fought to the end and hopefully we can clean up some details tomorrow. I love the fight in this group and we have to be sharp right from the puck drop tomorrow."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers opened the scoring 11:12 into the first period. Haylee Blinkhorn centered a feed to Nadia Mattivi and she was able to one-time a shot amidst UVM's defense and beat the Catamounts Jessie McPherson for her second goal of the season.
- Kristina Shanahan scored her first goal of the game with 49 seconds left in the opening period to tie things up. In transition Theresa Schafzahl set Shanahan up for a one-timer on the door step that beat BU's Callie Shanahan. Alyssa Holmes earned the secondary assist on the play.
- Just 25 seconds later the Terriers reclaimed the lead. A crazy deflection in front of the UVM net popped high into the air and evaded McPherson amidst heavy traffic. BU's Courtney Correia was the last Terrier to touch the puck and was credited with her 12th goal of the season.
- 4:25 into the second period Lacey Martin doubled the Terriers advantage on the power play. Martin skated into the high slot and beat McPherson with a wrist shot through traffic.
- Maddy Skelton cut the lead in half at the 7:45 mark of the middle period. Circling back in the Terriers zone Skelton faked a drop pass and split two BU defenders before rifling a perfect shot to the top corner for her fourth goal of the season. Bella Parento and Schafzahl earned assists on the tally.
- Midway through the third period Julia Nearis appeared to put the game out of reach with her fifth goal of the season. McPherson stopped a shot from Andi Calderone but the rebound came to Nearis at the side of the net and she fired a shot that bounced over McPherson's pad and in.
- Just 27 seconds later Shanahan made it a one-goal game again. Alyssa Holmes fed Shanahan a pass as she cut to the net in transition and Kristina roofed her 14th goal of the season to make it 4-3. Schafzahl earned her third assist of the game on the goal.
- With 1:19 left in regulation the Catamounts headed to the power play looking for the equalizer. The Catamounts appeared to tie the contest when Corinne McCool stuffed home a rebound in front but the referee blew the play dead just before the puck crossed the line.
