BOSTON – A trio of Catamount registered hat tricks as Vermont (2-0) soared to a 16-10 victory over Boston University (0-1) on Wednesday afternoon at Nickerson Field. UVM registered its first win over BU for the first time since Apr. 17, 1996. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Matty Spaeth scored the game's first goal just 58 seconds into the afternoon, but the Catamounts responded with three goals over the middle portion of the first quarter. Riley Halloran netted the 1-1 equalizer with 10:27 left on the clock. UVM then capitalized on a pair of woman-up opportunities with Dani Paterno putting Vermont up 2-1. Claire Adelhelm scored on the next woman-up opportunity for her first career goal to put the Cats up 3-1 with 7:07 left in the quarter. BU would score the next two goals to tie the game at 3-3 through the first frame.
- The Terriers added two more goals to start the second quarter and take a 5-3 lead. Ava Vasile stopped the BU run with her first goal of the game, but the Terriers would remain in front. The Catamounts would then close out the final 8:25 of the first half with five unanswered goals to take a 10-7 lead into the break. Taylor Mullen, Riley Halloran, Vasile, Meaghan O'Connor, and Maddie Erskine got in on the scoring.
- Grace Giancola padded the UVM lead with her first tally of the game in the opening minute of the second half. The redshirt senior added her second goal minutes later and in a quarter that saw Vermont and BU exchange three goals each. Erskine scored the third goal for the Catamounts with 2:28 left in the frame.
- Vermont held Boston University scoreless in the fourth quarter and added three more goals to its own tally. Adelhelm struck twice and Giancola rounded out the scoring for the 16-10 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Giancola, Erskine, and Adelhelm all registered hat tricks to lead the Catamounts in scoring. The two rookies, Erskine and Adelhelm, posted a team-high four points on the afternoon.
- Erskine and Giancola tallied a game-high nine shots, with Erskine posting five shots on goal.
- Kerry Gerety, Erin Kloostra, and McKenzie Ballard dished out two assists each. Gerety led Vermont with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Jackie Shipp (3 saves) and Sophie McLaughlin (1 save) split time in goal for the Catamounts.
