BEIJING – A program-record 13 current, former and future Catamounts will be participating at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Vermont student-athletes will be competing in Freestyle Skiing, Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing and Ice Hockey representing Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland and the United States.

The largest group of Catamounts will be involved in the women's hockey tournament which began last night in Beijing.
Sammy Kolowrat '19, Natálie Mlynková, Tynka Pátková and Blanka Škodová are representing the Czech Republic in their first-ever Olympic appearance in women's hockey. Kolowrat, Mlynková and Pátková made their Olympic debut last night in a 3-1 win over China. Škodová is on the taxi squad for the Czechs in case of injuries or instances of COVID-19.
Sini Karjalainen is competing for Finland and faced the United States this morning in her Olympic debut. The final Catamount competing in the tournament is an incoming first year Sofie Skott, representing Denmark. The Danes begin pool play tonight at 11:10 p.m. against China. Former women's hockey captain and current Hockey East official Chelsea Rapin '12 is serving as a referee in the tournament.
Three Catamounts will be representing the United States in cross-country skiing. Senior Nordic skier
Ben Ogden and former UVM Nordic All-American siblings Scott '14 and Caitlin '12 Patterson will represent the red, white and blue in Beijing. It will be Ogden's Olympic debut and the second straight appearance for the Pattersons. Scott finished 11th in the 50k Classic at the 2018 Olympics, the best finish ever by an American cross-country skier in the event. Cross-country will feature 12 events, including four individual events for both men and women and two team events for each gender. Cross-country kicks off the Olympics with its first medal event, the women's 15k skiathlon on Saturday, February 5. All of the cross-country action will be held at the National Cross-Country Skiing Center in Zhangjiakou, China.
In alpine skiing 2019 graduates
Paula Moltzan and Laurence St. Germain will be competing for the United States and Canada. Both have been regulars in the top-10 on the World Cup circuit since leaving UVM. St. German finished 15th in the slalom at the 2018 PyeongChang Games while Moltzan will be making her Olympic debut. Alpine skiing will be contested from February 6-19 at the Alpine Skiing Center in Yanqing, China.
Kevin Drury '14 will be competing in his second Olympics for Canada in Ski Cross. Drury was the 2019-20 Crystal Globe winner on the FIS circuit. He was either the winner or runner up in seven of the ten competitions that season. Following the season, he was named Alpine Canada's Ski Cross Male Athlete of the Year. At the PyeongChang Olympics he finished fourth overall in Ski Cross. Men's Ski Cross is scheduled for Friday, February 18.
Former Catamounts have won four gold medals at the Winter Olympics in UVM Athletics history. At the 2018 Olympics Amanda Pelkey '15 won gold as a member of the United States women's hockey team, defeating Canada 3-2 in a shootout. At the 2014 Sochi Olympics men's hockey alumni Martin St. Louis '97 and
Patrick Sharp '02 won gold in men's hockey with Canada. Barbara Ann Cochran '78 won the gold in the women's slalom at the 1972 Winter Games in Sapporo.
