PRESEASON POLL
Vermont collected 36 points and all six possible first-place votes to earn the top spot in the America East preseason poll. It is the second time in program history the Cats have been picked first in the poll – the other prior to the 2020 season.
Â
RETURNING FIREPOWER
The Catamounts return 97-percent of their scoring from last season's America East championship team. Leading scorer
Thomas McConvey reached the 100-point milestone in the season finale last year while All-Conference teammates
David Closterman,
Liam Limoges,
Michael McCormack and
JJ Levandowski all return for an offense that ranked 16
th nationally in scoring last season.
Â
CATAMOUNT ALL-AMERICANS
For the first time in program history, the Catamounts have multiple preseason All-Americans heading into 2022.
Thomas McConvey and
Tommy Burke were both named among the Inside Lacrosse group - Thomas on the Third-Team and Tommy Honorable Mention. McConvey was also named a USILA Preseason Second-Team All-American - the first time in program history a player has been named by the USILA. Ian MacKay '18 was the last Catamount to garner preseason All-American status (2017 - Inside Lacrosse 3rd Team)
Â
IN THE POLLS
The Catamounts are ranked in two of the three national preseason polls for the first time in program history. UVM sits at No. 17 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, No. 19 in the US Lacrosse Magazine Poll and is receiving votes in the USILA Coaches' Poll.
Â
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
The Blue Devils - ranked No. 3 in all three national polls - were picked to finish second in a highly competitive ACC in 2022. They also landed three players on the preseason All-ACC Team. Six Blue Devils were named to Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American teams led by second-team selections Tyler Carpenter (LSM) and Nakeie Montgomery (M). That was the second-most selections in the country behind only Maryland. Sophomore Brennan O'Neill is the top returning scorer after an impressive 45 goal-10 assist rookie season in 2021.
Â
INSIDE THE SERIES
The series history is brief between the Catamounts and Blue Devils with the latter holding a 3-0 edge all-time. February 2008 saw the most recent meeting between the two teams – also the season-opener – and Duke came away with a 19-7 in that contest. Vermont is 0-14 against current members of the ACC.
