COACH'S QUOTE
"Coming off two wins, we expected more from our team today," said Head Coach
Todd Woodcroft. "We are trying to build off any momentum we can create - and we didn't capitalize on the positive energy from our last two contests. Once again, in a low event game, we got into penalty trouble early that could be avoided. We have work to do before Wednesday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Huskies opened the scoring 7:15 into the first period on a five-on-three power play. John Spetz skated into the slot and fired a wrist shot past Vermont's Gabe Carriere who was partially screened on the play.
- After the Huskies killed off UVM's first power play chance of the game they struck in transition to double their advantage. Artem Shlaine redirected a centering feed from Ryan Tverberg past Carriere with 10:09 left in the first period.
- Carter Turnbull made it a three-goal lead with 7:57 left in the first period. Carriere made an initial save on a point-shot but the rebound came right to Turnbull who stashed it home.
- Jake Veilleux closed out the scoring in the second period with his first career goal. He fired a point shot that took a fortuitous bounce of a Vermont defender.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Tyler Harmon came in after the fourth UConn goal and made 11 saves for Vermont.
- Joel Määttä won a team-high 10 faceoffs for the Catamounts.
