COACH'S QUOTE
"I was proud of our effort through the first two quarters," head coach
Kate Pfeifer said. "We needed to be tighter defensively in the third, we allowed Syracuse too much space to attack. Defensive structure and finishing on our own set pieces will be key focus points tomorrow."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Orange opened the scoring 1:50 into the contest on their first corner opportunity of the contest. Syracuse's initial chance from the shooting circle was knocked down in traffic but Haarman gathered the loose ball and put it home for her first career collegiate goal.
- Following the opening tally Vermont earned two penalty corners in the middle of the first frame. Senior Haley Buffenbarger had a solid chance in front of the net on the second corner. Her hard-low shot was stopped by Syracuse's Brooke Borzymowski.
- Pleun Lammers doubled the Syracuse advantage with 43 seconds left in the opening quarter. Her shot from just inside the arc just snuck inside the post.
- Haarman completed her hat trick with two goals in 2:12 to open the second half and make it 4-0. Charlotte de Vries and Suus Heijnekamp would add third quarter goals for Syracuse to make it 6-0 after 45 minutes.
