UVM cross country opens its 2022 campaign on Saturday (Sept. 3) with the Vermont Invite, hosted at Hard'Ack Recreation Area in St. Albans. Events kick off with the women's 5k starting at 12 p.m., followed by the men's 8k at 12:40 p.m. Official timing will be conducted by
802 Timing.

THE FIELD
The Catamounts will be hosting UMass Lowell, UMass, and Stonehill in the 2022 Vermont Invite. UVM and UMass Lowell clash in the season-opening meet for the second consecutive season. The River Hawks enter Saturday's meet ranked No. 8 in the Northeast Region on the men's side. Both UML teams won America East Championships in 2021.

LAST YEAR'S INVITE
Jane Leighton led Vermont cross country in the 2021 Vermont Invite, posting a commanding 17.7-second margin of victory. The senior logged a blazing time of 17:55.40 to earn the top spot as the UVM women locked up second place. The Vermont men placed fourth in the team competition, with
Ian Denis (25:45.40) as the frontrunner.

HARD'ACK SUCCESS IN 2021
The Catamount men were victorious in their final home meet a season ago, tallying 18 points in the Fall Foliage Invite.
Andrew Crompton led UVM with a career-best mark of 25:20.40 to win by 43.1 seconds. Vermont's five scorers all placed in the top six.

LOOKING BACK AT LAST SEASON
The Catamounts competed in four meets prior to the America East Championships last season, including a pair of meets at Hard'Ack Recreation Area. The Vermont men's victory at the Fall Foliage Invite was the lone team win of the season, but a pair of Catamounts ran top marks in 2021.
Jane Leighton logged a pair of victories, both coming in St. Albans, and
Andrew Crompton raced to first place in the Fall Foliage Invite. The UVM women finished fifth in the America East Championship two weeks later, and the men finished sixth.
Jane Leighton raced to 10th place in the conference championship to earn All-Conference Second Team honors. The senior also earned the Elite 18 Award with a 3.99 GPA in Professional Nursing.

LOOKING AHEAD
Vermont cross country will be competing in eight meets this season, including a pair of home meets. The Catamounts will be back at Hard'Ack Recreation Area for the 2022 Fall Foliage Invitational on Oct. 16. UVM will be stick around New England for a pair of meets between the two home Invites, while also making a trip down to Lehigh on Sep. 30. The 2022 America East Championships will take place in Kingsville, Md. on Oct. 29, followed by the NCAA Northeast Regionals on Nov. 11 in Bronx, N.Y.
