COACH'S QUOTE
"It was really good to see us tested in different ways and watch the response," head coach
Kate Pfeifer said. "I have a lot of faith in this group that when we go down a goal or just have a tough time connecting that they're going to dig deep and find a way and we found a way today."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bulldogs opened the scoring with 6:31 left in the second quarter on their second penalty corner opportunity of the contest. Lotte Guitink's shot from out front redirected off a Vermont defender and past Sierra Espeland.
- Vermont outshot Bryant 7-2 in the first half but couldn't solve Bryant's Dieneke Hes who made two saves in the opening 30 minutes.
- The Catamounts broke through with 3:31 left in the third frame. Pushing in transition Mora Fernandez de Oliveira fired a pass into the shooting circle. Sophia Lefranc got a piece of the hard pass and redirected perfectly to Meg Weyer. Weyer fired it home for her first career goal past a diving Hes.
- Vermont's game-winning goal with 6:01 to play was an almost identical opportunity. Bella Silvaggio played a through ball from the UVM side of the field to Lauren Schellhamer cutting down the wing. Schellhamer played a pass into the circle just as she reached the corner that Weyer guided towards the net before Reggie Hillery tapped it home for her first career game-winning goal.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- With this afternoon's win Vermont is 3-0 to start conference play for the first time in program history. With one more league win the Catamounts would tie the program record for conference wins in a single season.
- A win on Sunday would match the program record for games without a loss with eight. In 1979, the first year of the varsity program, UVM was 6-0-2 from October 2 to October 23.
- With today's win, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to COTS, the Committee on Temporary Shelter, as part of the Cats Win, Community Wins initiative. Since the campaigns inauguration in 2017, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group has donated over $72,000 to local non-profits
