COACH'S QUOTE
"Before the match we talked about finishing in both circles and it feels good to earn this shutout with solid team defense and to finish on a rebound and a set piece," head coach
Kate Pfeifer said. "It was also great to see our passing game return and develop even more today."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams played a scoreless first quarter with Sierra Espeland making one save and Lauren Schellhamer recording Vermont's lone shot of the opening 15 minutes.
- UVM got on the board late in the first half thanks to Mora Fernandez de Oliveira's second of the season. After an Alina Gerke baseline drive, Sophia Lefranc's shot generated a rebound right to the first-year from Argentina who buried her chance.
- Eileen King had the best chance for the Cats in the third but her turnaround shot went just wide of the NU cage.
- The Catamount defense was stout in the fourth surrendering neither a penalty corner nor a single shot.
- Sophia Drees provided the finishing touches on the afternoon with her fifth goal of the season – a deflected drag-flick off a penalty corner with 13 seconds to play. Gerke got credit for the assist.
