COACH'S QUOTE
"I am very proud of this group's grit and their commitment to our defensive principles," head coach
Kate Pfeifer said. " We got away from our attacking game plan today and started to force passes that weren't on. UAlbany is strong transitioning to attack and we set them up for that with unnecessary turnovers."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont's passing game kept UAlbany in check for the first 30 minutes of action as neither team found the scoring touch.
- The Cats got on the board courtesy of Kate Hall's third goal of the season. She deflected a direct pass from Sophia Drees on a penalty corner with nine minutes gone in the third quarter.
- UAlbany tied the game on a broken play as Charlotte Triggs corralled a bouncing ball in the circle and flicked it past a charging Sierra Espeland to tie the game with less than six minutes to play.
- Espeland stood tall in the fourth quarter making four saves in the final 15 minutes.
- Alina Gerke managed the only shot for the Cats in the first overtime but it was blocked.
- The Great Danes found the winner less than two minutes into double overtime on a goal from Floor de Ruiter.
