COACH'S QUOTE
"That is a well-coached and tough opponent in Clarkson," Head Coach Steve Wiedler said. "We didn't get to our game fast enough tonight and they took advantage of that which good teams will do. When our players faced that challenge of being down on the road to a good team they fought back. For that, I'm proud of our program tonight, but no moral victories here. We will get back to work and continue to shape our identity and process. "

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Knights opened the scoring with 2:45 left in the opening frame. After a Vermont defenders stick broke Clarkson enjoyed an extended period of possession in the Vermont zone. From the point Jack Judson cycled the puck down low and as Ryan Richardson attempted a move to the front of UVM's Gabe Carriere the puck found Jesse Tucker alone on the doorstep and he tapped home his first goal with Clarkson.
  • The Catamounts equalized with 7:59 to play in the second period. Andrei Buyalsky won a puck battle down low and tapped the puck to Ryan Miotto. Miotto gathered and fed Isak Walther alone in the low slot. Walther one-timed the feed past Clarkson's Austin Roden to make it 1-1.
  • With 4:13 to play the Golden Knights regained their lead on a two-on-one rush following a Vermont turnover. Carriere made an initial save on Daimon Gardner but Ryan Taylor was right in position to tap home the rebound.
  • With 4:28 to play in the third period Vermont tied things up during a stretch of four-on-four play. On the breakout Clarkson attempted a neutral zone pass and Duncan Ramsay stepped up on the play and tipped the puck forward. Massimo Lombardi corralled the puck and broke in one-on-one with a Clarkson defender. Lombardi completely fooled the defender with a deke and then went bar down for his first goal of the season.
  • In overtime, the Golden Knights forced a turnover and broke in transition on a three-on-two rush. Clarkson got the puck to the trailer Noah Beck on the play as the Vermont defenders took away the middle of the ice. Beck passed to his left to Eric Ciccolini and Ciccolini one-touched a cross-crease feed to Romano and he tapped it home.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Vermont first year Duncan Ramsay made his collegiate debut Saturday night and picked up his first career point with an assist on Lombardi's game-tying goal.
  • The Catamounts blocked 14 shots Saturday night, Vermont Captain Will Zapernick led the way with four.
