MEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
With a season-opening four-game road swing in the books the Catamounts return to Gutterson Fieldhouse for the first time in four weeks as they host Connecticut in a two-game Hockey East series. On Friday night, the teams will faceoff at 7 p.m. before a 6 p.m. showdown on Saturday night, both contests will air live on ESPN+ with Rob Ryan on the call. As always, the games will be broadcast live on WVMT with the voice of the Catamounts Adam Lafleur in the Handy Toyota Broadcast Booth.Â

Friday night is Military Appreciation Night presented by Milton CAT. The first 500 fans will receive a co-branded gold UVM & Milton CAT hat. All active and retired military personnel will receive a complimentary ticket upon arrival with a valid military ID. Saturday night we will be hosting the Keurig Dr Pepper Can for Coffee Food Drive. Bring in a canned food item and you'll be entered into an in-game raffle for a free Keurig brewer.

JELLUS LEADING THE CATAMOUNTS OFFENSIVE ATTACK
Junior forward
Simon Jellus leads the team in scoring this season with four goals in four games. He scored the game-winner for Vermont on Oct. 13 at St. Lawrence and added a game-tying goal in UVM's shootout win over Providence last weekend. Jellus also scored the shootout winner for Vermont against the Friars. He is one of 11 players in the NCAA averaging a goal per contest this season (minimum four games).

CARRIERE CONSISTENT IN THE BLUE PAINT
Gabe Carriere has played every minute this season for the Catamounts posting a 1-2-1 record with a 2.46 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage. His .932 save percentage is tied for 15th best in the NCAA. Carriere made 74 saves in Vermont's weekend set at Providence last weekend. In addition, he stopped all three shooters in the shootout for the Catamounts.

FIRST YEARS FITTING RIGHT IN
Four Catamounts first years have made their collegiate debut this season for Vermont –
Eli Barnett,
Mateo Dixon, Jack Malinksi and
Duncan Ramsay. Malinski (10/28 at PC) and Ramsay (10/14 at Clarkson) earned their first collegiate points with assists in their respective debuts in the green and gold.

HOME OPENER BLUES
The Catamounts last win in their regular season home opener came on Oct. 6, 2017 in a 3-0 win over Colorado College. Last season Vermont dropped its home opener against UConn 4-1
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
UConn is 3-4-1 this season after a two-point weekend of their own in Hockey East action last time out. The Huskies topped UMass Lowell 2-1 in overtime last Friday before falling 1-0 Saturday in Hartford. UConn has gone six straight games without scoring a first period goal. UConn is tied with Michigan at 306 shots on goal for the most in the NCAA.

First year forward Jake Richard leads the Huskies in scoring with two goals and five assists for seven points. Nashville Predators first round pick Matthew Wood leads UConn with three goals this year. Wood had two goals and an assist against Vermont last season at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

Graduate goaltender Ethan Haider, a transfer from Clarkson and another Predators draft pick, has led the way for the Huskies this season. He's posted a 1-2-1 record with a 1.23 goals-against average and .946 save percentage. His GAA is fifth best in the NCAA and his save percentage is sixth best.
SERIES HISTORY
Vermont leads the overall series 25-12-1 with UConn, although the Huskies have won the last three contests. The Catamounts first-ever win against a team currently in Hockey East came against the Huskies. On December 27, 1963, in their inaugural campaign Vermont defeated the Huskies 11-2.

GUT HOCKEY GOES INTERNATIONAL
The Vermont roster is comprised of student-athletes from nine different countries. There is at least one player from Finland, Latvia, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Germany, Kazakhstan, Canada and the United States. There are eight student-athletes from Ontario alone, including five newcomers this year.
