COACH'S QUOTE
"It was a tough outcome tonight in a very hard fought game," Head Coach
Jim Plumer said. "There's going to be a lot to learn from this game and we are going to have to be better in a lot of areas. We've got to stay out of the box as priority one. We will be ready for our Pack the Gut game next Friday."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a scoreless opening period, the Catamounts broke through two minutes into the second period. Ezra Oien's defensive zone pressure forced a turnover, allowing Evelyne Blais-Savoie to locate Lara Beecher behind the net. Beecher circled the net and neatly slotted the puck into the top left corner for the short-sided goal.
- 8:54 into the second period, Holy Cross mounted a response with a power play goal. Casey Borgiel connected with Alexis Perry, who unleashed a slap shot from the left point. The puck ricocheted off the left post, glanced off the back of Ellie Simmons, and ultimately found the back of the net. Alexia Moreau recorded the secondary assist on the score.
- The Crusaders scored their second power play goal of the period 12:47 into the second frame. Millie Sirum fired a shot from above the right faceoff circle which was initially saved by Simmons. Moreau corralled the loose puck and tucked home the rebound to give Holy cross a 2-1 lead.
- Vermont leveled the score at two with just 3:30 remaining in the second period. Maddy Skelton released a shot from the right faceoff circle that deflected across the ice to Sofie Skott. Skott located McKenzie Cerrato with a centering pass that redirected off her skate and into the net, marking her first career goal.
- Following a scoreless third period, Holy Cross secured the game-winning goal with 1:16 remaining in overtime. Starting from behind the net, Sirum fired a precise wrist shot from the goal line, placing it in the top left corner of the net for the winning tally.
