COACH'S QUOTE
"Our first period we were sluggish and got outworked," Head Coach
Todd Woodcroft said. "Our second period we were the better team. The third period was a draw until they scored a late power play goal. We are hoping to be healthy soon and will use this week to rest up and prepare for UMass."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Friars opened the scoring 7:58 into the first period on a series of fortunate bounces. Max Crozier tried to slide a pass down low but it deflected off a Vermont skate and towards the UVM net. The puck then deflected off Riley Duran's skate before Jamie Engelbert tapped it home for his fourth goal of the season.
- Bennett Schimek doubled the Friars advantage with 2:05 left in the opening frame. Vermont's Oskar Autio couldn't see his point shot through traffic before it was too late. Crozier picked up another assist on Schimek's eighth goal of the campaign.
- Vermont cut the Providence lead in half with a five-on-three advantage in the second period. Andrei Buyalsky setup a one-time blast from Simon Jellus at the faceoff dot for his second goal of the season. Will Zapernick also earned an assist on the power play tally.
- Providence's Philip Svedebäck made eight saves in the third period, including three on an early penalty kill for the Friars to keep the Catamounts off the board.
- Crozier put the game away with a power play tally with 3:10 to play.
