COACH'S QUOTE
"Really pleased, ultimate respect to UAlbany you know they've set the bar for this conference for a long time and we're always happy to get out of these games with a win because they're so well coached," said Head Coach
Chris Feifs. "When we stuck to the game plan we were pretty good and when we got away from it we allowed them to hang around and make plays. I'm just glad we got out of here with a win."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jake Harrington opened the scoring for the Catamounts 6:12 into the first quarter. Harrington got a step on his defender with a hesitation move before rifling a shot past Jack Vanvalkenburgh down low. Just 28 seconds later Brock Haley doubled the Vermont advantage with another one-on-one move to beat his defender.
- With 6:04 to play in the first quarter David Closterman made it a 3-0 UVM lead, which led to a UAlbany timeout. Closterman completely lost his defender behind Vanvalkenburgh's net and he wrapped around and fired home his 14th goal of the year. Haley earned an assist on the goal.
- Just 1:01 later, Closterman found Haley for another Vermont tally. As Haley cut to the net Closterman floated a pass to him and he shoveled a shot short-side past Vanvalkenburgh before the UAlbany defense could react.
- With 3:29 to play Haley completed a first quarter hat trick with a bounce shot from distance that completely fooled Vanvalkenburgh. UVM carried a 5-0 lead into the second quarter.
- With 5:33 to play in the second quarter UAlbany finally found the scoresheet as Jack Pucci notched his 12th goal of the season. The Catamounts clapped right back with a pretty passing play in transition. Carson Boyle took a feed from Haley at the side of the net and wired his first career goal at Virtue Field past Vanvalkenburgh with 2:48 to play in the half.
- Vermont started fast again in the third quarter. Haley scored two more times and Derek Marsilio notched his first of the game as UVM built a 9-2 lead 6:01 into the third quarter. Marsilio also picked up an assist on Haley's fifth goal of the game.
- Nick Alviti and Colin Sharkey scored in transition late in the third quarter matching two goals from UAlbany and the Catamounts took a seven-goal edge into the fourth quarter.
- Marsilio, Haley and Charles Huntley scored for Vermont in an even fourth quarter that saw Vermont clinch its second conference win of the campaign.
