COACH'S QUOTE
"They did a phenomenal job on defense, that's the best UAlbany defense I've seen in years," Head Coach
Chris Feifs said. "They had a great game plan and they executed it. I don't think we anticipated
David Closterman going down with an ankle injury in the first quarter and he's really our quarterback. So, once he was kind of neutralized and their goalie started making saves it really put a lot of pressure on our younger guys to execute and when we had good opportunities their goalie snuffed them. So, credit to UAlbany, but you really can't account for injuries and three pretty big ones for us in this game really didn't help us."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Colin Sharkey opened the scoring for the Catamounts 1:46 into the first quarter. Sharkey took a feed from Closterman before firing his third goal of the season past UAlbany's Tommy Heller.
- UAlbany notched the next two goals of the contest with tallies from Declan Palandjian and Richmond to make it 2-1 with 7:10 to play in the opening quarter.
- Carson Boyle's 17th goal of the season tied things up for Vermont at the 6:09 mark. Richmond scored the final goal of the quarter with 2:42 to go and UA took that advantage to the second.
- 1:32 into the second Richmond scored his third of the contest to make it 4-2. Just 32 seconds later Griffin Fenech made it a one-goal game again for Vermont.
- With 5:19 to play in the half Dobson Cooper scored his first goal of the season to tie things up at four.
- 52 seconds after the Cooper tally Richmond scored the go-ahead tally giving UA a 5-4 lead at the half.
- Just seven seconds into the third quarter Richmond scored the only goal of the third quarter making it a 6-4 lead heading to the final frame.
- UAlbany made it a three-goal game 1:43 into the fourth quarter and then played shutdown defense the rest of the way. Heller made six saves in the fourth to preserve the UAlbany upset.
