Vermont (1-1-0) continues their NEC slate on the road in Teaneck, N.J. against FDU (0-2-0) on Thursday, August 24. The start time for the game is slated for 12 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on NEC Front Row.

UPPERCLASS CLICKING ON ALL CYLINDERS
Vermont earned their first victory of the season with a 4-1 win over Merrimack at Virtue Field on Sunday, August 20. In that game the Catamounts had four different goal scorers, all of whom are upperclassmen. Graduate student Alyssa Oviedo led the way for the Catamounts scoring their first goal of the 2023 campaign and her first goal since returning to action. Juniors Bailey Ayer, Kate Bossert and Maddy Cronin each added a goal for Vermont. Cronin's goal proved to be the game-winner and was her first collegiate goal. Ayer and Bossert both added an assist for the Catamounts and finished with three points each in the game.
PRESEASON POLLS
Defending NEC Tournament champions FDU were selected third overall in the 2023 Northeast Conference Preseason Poll receiving two first place votes.
The Catamounts, just missed out on the 2022 playoffs, and were selected seventh overall in the 2023 America East Preseason Poll.
NORTHEAST CONFERENCE FOES
During the 2023 season the Catamounts will face four Northeast Conference opponents including FDU. Vermont earned a 4-1 victory over Merrimack in their first game of the season against an NEC foe. In that game the Catamounts had four different goal scorers and recorded three unanswered second half goals to secure the victory. Along with FDU and Merrimack, Vermont will also face Sacred Heart on August 31 and Stonehill on September 10.
Against NEC opponents all-time the Catamounts are 16-4-3. In their 23 total matchups against NEC foes Vermont has outscored opponents 49-26 across. The Catamounts best record against a single NEC foe is 5-0-0 against Sacred Heart. Vermont has recorded a 6-1-2 record against Central Connecticut which is their most wins against a single NEC opponent.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
FDU enters Thursday's matchup with a 0-2-0 record after falling on the road to St. Johns and at home to Monmouth in their first two games of the 2023 campaign. In their first two games of the season FDU has been outscored 7-0. However, the Knights were selected third in the 2023 NEC Preseason Poll and return a number of their key young core from their 2022 squad. 2022 NEC All-Rookie Team members Emma Moe, Mona Schlegl and Katie Ward return for the Knights. Throughout their first two games of the season Marie Jakobsen has anchored the net for the Knights recording nine saves and a .600 save percentage. Four different players for the Knights have registered a shot on net this season including senior leader Lina Dirnberger and graduate student Naemi Hausen.
SERIES HISTORY WITH FDU
This will be the third matchup between the Catamounts and the Knights. Vermont is 0-1-1 all-time against FDU. The last time these two teams faced was in Teanack, N.J. on September 19, 2014, where FDU came away with a 3-0 victory. The first ever matchup between the two teams came on September 20, 2013, which ended in a 1-1 tie after double overtime.
WHO'S NEXT
Following Thursday's matchup with FDU the Catamounts will have a week off before returninghome to face another NEC foe, Sacred Heart, on Thursday, August 31. Thursday's game against The Pioneers will be the Catamounts annual Military Appreciation Day Presented by Milton Cat.
