Field Hockey Drops Close League Opener To New Hampshire

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Catamounts return home to open America East play this afternoon as they took on New Hampshire. The Catamounts looked to win two straight against the Wildcats for the first time since 2017-18. Lilly Leiprecht opened the scoring early before Nicole Poulakis had a goal and an assist to help lead New Hampshire to a 2-1 win. The loss drops Vermont to 3-5 and moves the Wildcats to 6-2.

"It was a battle today-which we expected. I wish we managed certain moments better, but appreciate the overall effort and grit of our players," said Head Coach Kate Pfeifer. "In the end, it could have been either team's game and I hope in the future we can close the door while we are ahead."

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Leiprecht scored off a rebound from Maddie Moran nine minutes into the second quarter to give Vermont a lead. 
  • Poulakis quickly tied the game for New Hampshire 31 seconds into the third quarter when she scored unassisted. 
  • Leah Glidden gave the Wildcats the lead for good when she scored off an assist from Poulakis five minutes into the fourth quarter.

  • Leiprecht's goal was the first of her career. 
  • Ila Gunner continued to be strong in cage, posting a career-high six saves. 
 
UP NEXT
The Catamounts travel to Massachusetts next weekend to take on UMass Lowell on Friday before finishing at 11th-ranked Boston College. Friday's game will be streamed live on AmericaEast.TV and Sunday's matchup will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
