BURLINGTON, Vt. – California came to Burlington as the Catamounts looked to wrap up the opening weekend of America East play. The Golden Bears got off to a fast start as Bente Baekers scored twice and Daniella Rhodes scored to give California a 3-0 first-quarter lead. However, the Catamounts did not bend and fought back. Sophia Drees and Meg Weyer each had three points as Vermont rallied to beat the Golden Bears 4-3 in overtime. The win moves the Catamounts to 4-5 and drops to 3-5.

"It's just great to be able to come back, three unanswered goals and then to be able to finish it in overtime is huge," said Head Coach Kate Pfeifer. "I think it's a real testament to the will of these players and the fact that they don't give up and they know we can do this."

HOW IT HAPPENED

Baekers was the first on the score sheet, beating the Catamount defense four and a half minutes into the first quarter.
Baekers doubled her tally five minutes later as she scored unassisted to extend the lead.
Rhodes scored with 30 seconds left in the first quarter when she knocked in a pass from Sophie Everett.
The Catamounts grabbed one back in the second quarter when Weyer redirected a pass from Drees into the back of the net with 11 minutes gone in the second quarter.
Drees found the back of the net herself off a penalty corner from Weyer and Haley Buffenbarger four minutes into the fourth quarter.
Alina Gerke tied the game at 3 with four minutes left when she took it past the entire Cal defense.
Sophia Lefranc ended the game when she found the back of the net off an assist from Mora Fernandez De Oliveira.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Lefranc's goal makes it two years in a row that she has scored the game-winner against Cal.
Lauren Halenkamp had the first shutout of her career as she kept the Golden Bears scoreless for three quarters and overtime in relief.

The Catamounts travel to Massachusetts next weekend to take on UMass Lowell on Friday before finishing at 11th-ranked Boston College. Friday's game will be streamed live on AmericaEast.TV and Sunday's matchup will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
