LOWELL, Mass. – Alissia De Vries' 24th-minute goal was the difference as 18th-ranked UMass Lowell (8-2, 2-0 AE) defeated Vermont (4-6, 1-2 AE) 2-1 on Friday at Wicked Blue Field.

"I continue to be impressed by the skill, resiliency and class of our players in what proved again to be challenging circumstances," said Head Coach Kate Pfeifer. "UMass Lowell did well defending our chances in the second half, we created a lot of turnovers and ultimately needed to be more threatening with our transition attack." 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• The River Hawks quickly struck first when Madison Leeper scored in the third minute, tapping in a rebound after a save by Lauren Halenkamp (5 saves).
• Sophia Lefranc knotted it up for the Catamounts when her shot found the back of the net in the 15th minute. 
• De Vries scored the game-winning goal off a penalty corner from Cate Kleeman and Mirthe Gans in the 24th minute. 
• The Catamounts outshot the River Hawks 5-4 in the second half, searching for the equalizer. Lilly Leiprecht nearly scored the tying goal in the 57th minute, but was denied by Marie Oliemans (1 save). 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Lefranc's first-quarter goal puts her at 15 points for the season, which is the most in her career. 
• The Catamounts kept the nation's second ranked offense to only a pair of goals.
