HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts came out strong Saturday night, they outshot Vermont 10-1 in the opening 11 minutes of the contest. Timofei Spitserov appeared to give UVM the lead midway through the opening period but the officials blew the play dead with the puck loose in the crease.
- Northeastern struck first 3:39 into the second frame. In transition Vinny Borgesi dropped the puck back to Matt Choupani and as he cut into the slot he fired a shot past Gabe Carriere for his second goal of the season.
- Dylan Hryckowian doubled the Huskies advantage 86 seconds later. Northeastern won a battle along the boards and Cam Lund fed a cross-ice pass to Hryckowian that he one-timed top corner for his third goal of the year.
- Spitserov cut the Huskies lead in half 2:38 into the third period. The Catamounts dumped the puck in the Northeastern zone and Ryan Miotto provided pressure on the forecheck. A Northeastern defender played the puck blindly up the boards and Spitserov took advantage. He gathered the puck and fired from the faceoff circle to the left of the Huskies Cameron Whitehead. Whitehead made the initial save, but the puck bounced of Jens Richards in front and remained loose. Spitserov followed his own shot and tapped it home to make it 2-1.
- Whitehead made 10 saves in the third period to close the door on a Catamounts comeback. With nine seconds left in regulation after making two key blocks Gunnarwolfe Fontaine iced the contest with an empty-net goal.
