CRAFTSBURY, Vt. –
Haley Brewster continued her dominant start to 2024 on Friday leading the Catamounts on the opening day of the EISA Carnival season. Brewster won the Classic Sprint final by .95 to earn UVM's first podium of the year.
Libby Tuttle also earned a final appearance and placed fourth for the Catamounts. After the first day of four in the UVM Carnival the Catamounts sit in second place with 198 points, 37 behind Dartmouth.

Day 1 Results
In the women's sprints the Catamounts had four skiers qualify for the quarterfinals – Brewster, Tuttle,
Marielle Ackermann and
Camille Bolduc. Brewster and Tuttle won their quarterfinal heat and Ackermann advanced to the semifinals as a lucky loser. Brewster, who was the top qualifier initially, won the semifinal with all three Catamounts in it with a time of 3:47.59. In the final, she won again with a mark of 3:49.91 topping Dartmouth's Ava Thurston. Tuttle placed fourth in the EISA standings, Ackermann was 12th and Bolduc was 29th.
In the men's sprints
Finn Sweet,
Benon Brattebo and
Owen Young earned quarterfinal berths. Brattebo and Young were making their EISA debut for the Catamounts. Brattebo and Sweet advanced to the semifinals as second place finishers in their respective quarterfinals. Sweet placed fifth, while Brattebo was sixth in the semifinal round. In the overall EISA standings Sweet was ninth, Brattebo 12th and Young was 23rd.
The Catamounts Nordic squad returns to action tomorrow in Craftsbury as the men and women will compete in a 10k Skate. The women will now start at 11 a.m. followed by the men at 12:30.
