MEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
In the midst of a five-game win streak for the first time since 2017 Vermont (9-7-1) is back in action Saturday evening as they travel down I-89 to renew their rivalry with Dartmouth (3-4-6) at Thompson Arena. The teams will faceoff at 6 p.m. and the contest will air live on ESPN+. As always, the game will also be broadcast live on WVMT with the voice of the Catamounts Adam Lafleur in the Handy Toyota Broadcast Booth.Â

CARRIERE NAMED HOCKEY EAST GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH
Senior goaltender
Gabe Carriere was named the Stop It Goaltending Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for December. Carriere has won five straight games for the Catamounts. In the month of December, he was 6-2-0 with a 1.75 GAA and .930 save percentage. Overall Gabe has posted a .926 save percentage which is the top mark in Hockey East and the fourth best in the NCAA.

Gabe has started all 17 games for the Catamounts registering 1,022:22 of game action and posting 463 saves. Carriere is the first Catamount to earn Hockey East Goaltender of the Month honors since Stefanos Lekkas '20 in the fall of 2016. As a first year Lekkas won a share of the award in October and November.

CARRYING MOMENTUM INTO THE NEW YEAR
Vermont enters Saturday's action on a five-game winning streak having outscored its opponents 21-6 during that stretch. Vermont has scored 14 goals in its last three games for the first time since Dec. 30-Jan. 3 of the 2016-17 campaign. The Catamounts current five-game win streak is also its first since the 2016-17 campaign.

BUCHELER LEADING THE BACKLINE
In his last 10 games graduate defenseman Jérémie Bucheler has six goals and seven assists for 13 points. The 13 points have set a new career-high for Bucheler in a single season. Bucheler leads the Catamounts in scoring this season.

SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
Last weekend the Big Green hosted their annual holiday tournament the Ledyard Classic. In their first contest the Big Green shutout Lake Superior State 4-0 behind 21 saves from Cooper Black. In the championship game Dartmouth fell 5-1 to No. 7 Maine. Dartmouth is 1-3-3 since Nov. 25 with their lone win coming against Lake Superior State. Dartmouth is 0-3-0 against Hockey East teams this season falling to UNH, UConn and Maine.

Sophomore forward Cooper Flinton leads the Big Green in scoring with six goals this season. He has scored in three straight games for Dartmouth and four of their last five games. First year forward Nikita Nikora has the team lead in points with 12 behind two goals and 10 assists. He has a point in five straight games for the Big Green. After starting all 30 games between the pipes last season Black has been strong again this year for Dartmouth. His .921 save percentage is ranked 10th nationally. He is 3-3-6 this season with a 2.33 goals-against average. Â Â

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday marks the 84th meeting between Vermont and Dartmouth in series history. The twin-state rivals have met annually since the 1977-78 season, except for the 2020-21 campaign due to COVID-19. GUT HOCKEY GOES INTERNATIONAL
The Vermont roster is comprised of student-athletes from nine different countries. There is at least one player from Finland, Latvia, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Germany, Kazakhstan, Canada and the United States. There are eight student-athletes from Ontario alone, including five newcomers this year.
