She becomes the eighth Catamount ever to be recognized for this team and first since 2012.
"Sophia has had an incredible career here at UVM and I am grateful for what she has given to our program," said head coach
Kate Pfeifer. "Her leadership and unyielding pursuit of excellence was a significant factor in the team's achievement of the America East Championship this season. We will miss her presence and look forward to watching her succeed in her next chapter."
The nomination marks the fifth postseason recognition for Drees as she was named America East Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference, all-academic team, and to the all-tournament team.
A Bremen, Germany native, Drees finished her final season in Burlington with 22 points (seven goals, eight assists). On Oct. 18, she broke the program record for career assists when she recorded her 26th career assist against UMass Lowell in a 3-1 victory. Drees finishes her career with 22 goals and 30 assists for 74 points. She sits sixth all-time in career points and first in career assists. Drees played an integral role in helping Vermont win their first America East title and make their first-ever appearance in the NCAA tournament.
