ALBANY, N.Y – Sophia Lefranc scored two goals as fourth-seed Vermont defeated fifth-seed UMass Lowell in the quarterfinals of the America East tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Meg Weyer and Sophia Drees had the Catamount's best two chances of the first quarter, forcing the River Hawks into two saves.
- UMass Lowell had a chance in the eighth minute, but Merle Vaandrager saved it.
- Lefranc broke the deadlock in the 28th minute when she took it to score unassisted.
- Lefranc doubled the lead for the Catamounts in the 37th minute when she redirected a pass from Drees.
- Vaandrager made a point-blank save in the 48th minute to keep the shutout.

- Lefranc's two goals were her first multi-goal game of the season, bringing her total to 17 points.
- With the shutout, Vaandrager now has five shutouts on the season, making her one of four Vermont players to achieve this feat.
- Drees recorded her 29th career assist on Lefranc's second goal.
- Today's victory is the Catamount's first-ever playoff win in program history.

The Catamounts will take on the top seed UAlbany tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. This will be the second meeting between the two teams in a week. Vermont and the Great Danes played on Nov. 1, and the hosts won 3-1.
Marie Dijkstra had the Catamount's lone goal on the afternoon, her 10th of the season. After earning her fifth shutout of the season, Vaandrager has the chance to tie the record for most shutouts in a season. She is currently tied for 12th all-time in career shutouts with five.
