HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams got off to a cold start, shooting below 38 percent from the field in the first six minutes but Matt Veretto kept the Catamounts momentum going after draining two three pointers to start the scoring for Vermont.
- UVM and Binghamton traded baskets back-and-forth with 11:06 left in the first half with each team locked at 12-12.
- The Catamounts began to pull away with 8:09 left of the opening half, forcing the Bearcats to take a timeout after a 7-0 scoring run by Vermont. Jace Roquemore led the charge, earning four points in the run including an and-one bucket off a jump shot, followed by a made free throw. UVM led 19-12.
- Aaron Deloney and Chris Walker took turns scoring buckets from beyond the arc as time in the first half wound down. With 3:56 remaining the Catamounts led 22-18.
- After nearly four minutes of scoreless basketball, Binghamton heaved the ball near half court with a second on the clock. The initial shot missed; however, Dan Petcash was in the perfect spot to cash in the buzzer beater putback. The score going into halftime was in favor of Vermont, 22-20.
- The second half started similar to the first, with each team trading blows early as a 7-7 run was formed. TJ Long led the push for Vermont with five points followed by some secondary scoring from TJ Hurley making both free throws after getting fouled on a layup attempt. At the first media timeout of the second frame, the Catamounts led 29-27.
- With 13:14 remaining of the second half, Patrick Gym erupted when Hurley splashed a three pointer from the corner in front of the UVM bench, giving Vermont a 34-29 lead.
- Deloney connected with his second three of the game with 9:35 remaining following a 4-0 scoring run by Nick Fiorillo alone. Vermont maintained the lead, 41-35.
- The Catamounts assembled an 11-6 scoring run with five separate players for Vermont registering a point in the offensive push. UVM's lead was 52-41 with 5:39 remaining.
- A pair of three-pointers from Deloney and Long with just over three minutes left of the final half practically sealed the deal for the Catamounts as free throws were the only points scored in the remaining minutes.
